NOTE: ‘Mandatory’ courses are those required to be completed before participating in Club trips graded higher than 2.
Basic Driver Training for Grade 3 Trips and above
“Safe One” Basic Driver Training
Basic driver training is designed to equip Club members to undertake Club Trips up to and including Grade 3 level. This course is a prerequisite to all other driving courses.
Each training course will consist of a:
- 4WD Vehicle Evaluation
- Pre-night Theory session, in Canberra, the Wednesday night immediately prior to the weekend theory and practical driving sessions, and,
- Weekend theory and practical driving sessions at the Club’s property.
The scope of the Basic course will include, but not be limited to:
Class room training
- Safety Principles,
- Convoy Procedures,
- Safe 4WDriving,
- Tyres,
- Driving Techniques,
- Recovery Techniques
Practical training
- Wheel placement,
- Stall out and hill starts,
- Practice in assessing and driving inclines, declines and obstacles
- Use of snatch straps and traction boards
- Demonstration of safe winching techniques
