Ancillary Education Courses
Ancillary Education Courses run by skilled and experienced facilitators drawn from the Club’s membership, or professionally delivered by external organisations (sometimes for a fee). Where the Ancillary courses involve in-vehicle practical driving presentations, consultation with the Chief Instructor is required, and assistance of Driving Instructors may be required.
GPS and Electronic Mapping
The aim of this workshop is to educate students in the use of electronic mapping applications. On the completion of the workshop students will be able to:
- Understand and interpret map data and map data files,
- Understand the functions of the OziExplorer app or the Hema Navigator App or the Hema Explorer App,
- Can plan a route,
- Successfully implement a route.
Duration of the workshop is two days covering theory and practical exercises.
The workshop content includes instruction, immediate feedback advice and assistance, and the opportunity for personal assessment through practical exercises. The curriculum and course content will be made available to members undertaking the course, and includes practical assessment processes involving driving a pre-planned route.
Trip Leader
The aim of this workshop is to assist members seeking to lead club trips, to confidently coordinate and run four-wheel driving activities. On completion of the workshop students will be able to:
- Understand the role and responsibilities of a trip leader,
- Understand the role and responsibilities of trip participants,
- The process of preparing a trip for proposal, seeking Committee approval, and advertising the trip to members,
- Deciding Trip grading,
- Running the trip and post trip responsibilities
- Manage recoveries
Duration of the workshop is two days covering theory and practical exercises.
The curriculum and course content including assessment processes will be made available to members undertaking the course.
Camper Trailer Towing
This workshop is designed to ensure participants understand the forces involved in a vehicle towing a trailer and effect on off-road driving techniques, and offers the opportunity to practice off-road towing. The course covers:
- Legislation and National Code of Practice
- Weights and towing capacity, including Aggregate Trailer Mass and Gross Trailer Mass
- Loading and balancing trailer load
- Tips for towing in rough terrain
- Recovery techniques
Duration of the workshop is two days covering theory and practical exercises.
Prerequisites: Basic Driver Training
Chainsaw Awareness
Students on this workshop will be trained and assessed against the competency standard FPICOT2239A Trim and Cut Felled Trees.
Duration of this workshop is one day.
First Aid/Remote First Aid
Delivered by external First Aid training providers.
Duration of these training courses is one day each and students will be responsible for payment to the appropriate party delivering the training. The courses are conducted on demand when there are sufficient attendees for the training organisation.
