Vic High Mountain Country

Vic High Mountain Country

Activity Description:

The aim of this trip is to penetrate deep into the Victorian High country and explore some of the Vic High historical sites. This trip will cover areas around Wood’s Point, Walhalla, Licola, Billy Goat Bluff Track, Dargo, Grant historical area and much more. This trip will encounter steep mountain trails and long deep descents into valleys. There will be quite a few water crossings at varying depths (blinds may be required). The mountain environment can change at any time so be prepared for hot and possibly cold extreme conditions. Camping will be at different sites. Pit toilets are available at all camp sites but not showers. Hot showers will be available at Walhalla & Licola. There is a possibility that some vehicle recoveries may be required. Some of the areas that are on the proposed trip can be challenging and will require careful driving. Because of this only club members with three years’ experience and suitably modified vehicles will be allowed to participate. Vehicle inspection by the trip leader will be required. (Please note that I am being cautious because some of the areas we will be travelling are new to me and track conditions are unknown). Camping at Walhalla, Licola and Omeo will require fee payments. Day 1 Transit to Snake reserve camping area via Benalla, Mansfield and Jamieson. Day 2 Drive the many tracks in the area making our way to Walhalla Day 3 Explore Walhalla area and drive the many tracks while making our way to Licola Day 4 Drive the tracks and descend Billy Goat Bluff track to Dargo Day 5 Explore the Grant Historical area and many tracks and camp at the famous Dogs Grave Day 6 Travel numerous tracks plus the Haunted Stream and camp in Omeo Day 7 Depart Omeo and transit back to Canberra via the Omeo highway, Mitta Mitta, Albury and then the Hume highway to home.
