Merlya and Monkey Gum

Activity Description:

Saturday we will depart EagleHawk at 8:15 and head up to Sutton Forest for a quick stop and fuel top-up if required. Alternatively participants can join at the south-bound McDonalds at Sutton Forest. We will be departing from here at 10.00 am. The trip heads into Merlya State Forest to drive some tracks and stop for lunch – these tracks are tight and muddy in places. We will then proceed across GunRock Falls (short crossing, rockstep and deep(ish)) and Gunrock FireTrail to Fitzroy Falls, stopping at some of the lookouts on the way before airing-up and heading down to Kangaroo Valley for the night. Accommodation is at Glenmack Park (camping) or the Pioneer Hotel – your choice. Dinner at the pub in Kangaroo Valley township, or arrange your own. Sunday we will leave at 9:00 am and drive through Nowra towards Yalwal, before heading down Myntbush FireTrail onto Wombat Flat Rd and Monkey Gum firetrail before returning on the blacktop through Nerriga and Tarago and back to Canberra. Morning tea and lunch stops on Sunday will depend on the number of vehicles and progress. Participants MUST have completed basic training and at least 1 Grade 3 trip prior to this one – expect difficult driving, track building and potentially some bush pin-stripes. Vehicles must have a minimum 2 inch lift and good tyres, and you MUST have your own recovery gear and rated recovery points – a winch would be a bonus. This is a HARD grade 3 with quite a lot of driving (both highway and tracks)
