Lithgow and Beyond 2015
Activity Description:
This is a grade four trip containing a variety of terrain including rock steps, gutters, mud, and water crossings. The area abounds with history and fantastic views across Pagoda rock formations. Two trip leaders Glen Watts and Grahame Booth leading 5 vehicles each will do reverse days on day 2 and 3 reconvening each night to discuss their day during happy hour or at the nearby pub. This will allow more tracks to be driven and at a better pace. Day 1 – Travel via Taralga, Lithgow and Dark Corner driving the fire trails through to Sunny Corner camping on the Turon River for a three night camp.(There is a Pit toilet at the camp site however you may want to bring along a shower) Day 2 – Drive up Mount Ailey, visiting the Turret, Jurassic Park and the Old Airley Village site. Day 3 – Drive Baal Bone Gap (Gardens of Stone National Park), Black Fellows trail, Spanish Steps, Bird Rock, the Lost City and returning back to camp via Lithgow. Day 3 –Depart camp and driving back through Lithgow, the Blue Mountains and then home via Kowmung Creek FT. (Good Wheel placement and some track building will be required in this area due to the tracks that we are driving)There is a possibility that some vehicle recoveries may be required. Vehicle inspection by the trip leader will be required. (Please note that I am being cautious because some of the areas we will be travelling are new to me and track conditions are unknown). Fuel: Full tank at start, fuel available Lithgow & Capertee Maps: State Forest Bathurst, Cullen Bullen, Ben Bullen Lithgow. Comment: This trip will encounter some steep rutted trails, rock steps and mud. There will be a number of water crossings through Turon National Park at Varying Depths (blinds may be required) Trailers are allowed as we will be doing a base camp, however anyone taking a trailer must consult with the trip leader first as there are a number of creek crossings and rutted trails on the way into camp. If there is rain prior or during the trip, the trip may be cancelled or changed due to the difficulty of some of the tracks.
