Sand Driving and River Crossing

This course is normally conducted over 2 half days on a single weekend, and includes a MANDATORY ‘pre-night’ where participants will be briefed on the weekend activities and correct preparation of their vehicles.

The Sand and Water components are conducted as separate locations as separate exercises.  Participants perform all practical exercises under the guidance of an instructor and in a controlled environment.

Depending on how well prepared participant’s vehicles are water ingress is possible.

 

Class Room Training:

  • Vehicle preparation
  • Tyre pressure
  • Use of momentum
  • Creation of a bow-wave (water component)
  • Safe river crossing

Practical Training:

Water

  • Vehicle preparation
  • Planning a route and factors which impact successful crossing
  • Maintaining momentum and creating a bow-wave
  • Pre and post water crossing vehicle checks

Sand

  • Vehicle preparation
  • Sand driving, including turning, stopping and starting on sand
  • Safe recovery techniques

To attend this course you must:

  • be a current/financial club member
  • not be in the first year of membership
  • have completed Basic Driver Training
