Intermediate Winching and Recovery

A one-day course which builds on both the theoretical and practical use of participant’s winches cover by the Basic Winching and Recovery Course. Participants normally work in small groups (2 or 3 vehicles) under the guidance of an instructor to complete a range of more complex recovery scenarios at different locations throughout the course.

Safety during vehicle recovery is a key focus of the course.

Class room training:
  • Review of basic Winching and recovery principles
  • Review of signals and communication during winching
  • Assessing and planning more complex recovery situations
Practical training:
  • More complex winch set-up and recovery, including:
    • securing and lowering vehicles using straps
    • redirects
    • multi-line pulls
  • ‘Sling-shot’ recovery
  • Safely returning a rolled vehicle to its wheels
To attend this course you must:
  • be a current/financial club member
  • not be in the first year of membership
  • have completed Basic Driver Training
  • have completed the Basic Winching and Recovery course
  • have a fitted and working winch and associated recovery equipment
