GPS and Electronic Mapping

The aim of this workshop is to educate students in the use of electronic mapping applications. On the completion of the workshop students will be able to:
  • Understand and interpret map data and map data files,
  • Understand the functions of the relevant mapping software (eg; ExploreOz, OziExplorer, Hema Navigator/Explorer)
  • Plan a route,
  • Successfully implement a route.
Duration of the workshop is two days covering theory and practical exercises. The workshop content includes instruction, immediate feedback advice and assistance, and the opportunity for personal assessment through practical exercises. The curriculum and course content will be made available to members undertaking the course, and includes practical assessment processes involving driving a pre-planned route.
Class room training: Use of the relevant GPS and Mapping software:
  • Opening and saving
  • Navigating the software
  • Loading and using Maps
  • Planning routes and way-points
  • Tracking routes
  • System settings
Practical training: Using the software to:
  • follow a planned route
  • adjust the route
  • track the route (create track logs)
  • review the trip
To attend this course you must:
  • be a current/financial club member
It would also be beneficial to participants to have completed Basic Driver Training.
