Basic Winching and Recovery

A one-day course which covers both the theoretical and practical use of participant’s winches. The course includes vehicle setup, recovery management, and the use of safe winching techniques. Safety during vehicle recovery is a key focus of the course.

Participants normally work in small groups (2 or 3 vehicles) under the guidance of an instructor to complete a range of recovery scenarios.

  • Assessing the recovery and winching activity (planning and managing the recovery)
Practical training
  • Winch line set-up and safe winching
  • Single line pull
  • Simple line re-direct
  • Double line pull
  • Securing a vehicle
  • Signals and controlling the recovery
To attend this course you must:
  • be a current/financial club member
  • not be in your first year of membership
  • have completed Basic Driver Training
  • have a fitted and working winch and associated recovery equipment
