Yalwal Monkey Gum Fire Trail
The starting point of the four wheel driving would be the intersection of Braidwood Rd and Deans Gap Rd, which is a usual air down point for a drive up Monkey Gum FT. It should take 1 hr 15 min to get there from Tarago, so we should be there approximately by 09:30 am.
We will be transiting Monkey Gum from the bottom to the top. This should take about 3.5 hours if incident free. There will be no extended lunch break on a track due to possible hold ups further up up the track. We will then transit back to Braidwood road
All vehicles must have a winch, full kit of recovery gear, mud tyres or all terrain tyres in good condition, front and rear recovery points and good under body protection. Minimum 2 inch lift and IFS vehicles must have at least one locker. Standard alloy side steps will get hammered! The terrain is steep, rocky, very rutted and requires good team work to traverse. There is a possibility for the following damage can occur.
- sills and front and rear ends.
- body and mechanical damage, especially to CVs and drive train.
Drivers must have a reasonable level level of fitness to be able to assist in recoveries. Must have some previous experience in grade 5 trips.
