Participants will receive a full written briefing on requirements (but read my article in the October 2014 edition of Southern Trails for a preview). This trip will include extensive low-range 4wding on steep tracks, and a number of river crossings. This is not a trip for novices – participants must have completed their basic driver training and have at least 12 to 24 months of solid experience. All vehicles will need to be reliable, well maintained and equipped with good all-terrain or mud-terrain tyres. Better than normal ground clearance will be useful. Recovery gear must be carried. Fuel range of 500km with 30% low range work is required. Water and food for seven days should be carried. Limited supplies are available at Dargo and Licola. We ended our trip last March with an excellent group dinner at Maggies Magnolia Restaurant in Mansfield. That was so enjoyable I’d like to do that again. This will be an optional extra to top off the trip. Assuming we make it to Mansfield for Friday night, you might care to pre-book accommodation. Remember that the weather may cause delays or changes to our plans.
