The Settlers Track and Yaouk Explorer
Activity Description:
** NOTE – due to the very high forecast temperatures, this trip is deferred. The Yaouk Explorer part will go ahead as an 8.30am start Sunday 21 Jan from Namadgi Visitor Centre. ** While this trip involves driving on dirt roads, there will be no challenging driving, so the trip is well suited to new members who have not yet completed Basic Course, and would like to meet other Club members. Note that The Settlers Track is a 9km walk! We’ll head down Naas and Boboyan Roads to Brayshaws Homestead. From there, we will complete the 9km Settlers Track loop walk taking in Brayshaws, Waterhole Hut and Westermans Homestead plus other sites along the way. See the info sheet at http://www.environment.act.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0005/404591/The-Settlers-Track.pdf Bring appropriate clothing for the possible weather options, plus carry morning tea, sunscreen etc. We’ll have lunch back at the cars by Brayshaws. After lunch, we will take a drive through the Yaouk Valley and loop through Adaminaby. Many years ago, I drove through this area but don’t remember which roads, so this is an exploration. Expect the occasional turn-around, but also some very pleasant scenery. Those wishing to return to Canberra can head off at any time. Those interested in some more walking and historic huts and sites might wish to camp overnight at Mt Clear Campground and join us for the 16km round trip walk to Demandering and Horse Gully huts on Sunday. Bookings are required to camp; contact me to coordinate.
