New members & old – easy trip to the Big Hole

New members & old – easy trip to the Big Hole

Activity Description:

Travel some tracks in the Tallaganda National Park to arrive at the Berlang Camp ground, beside the upper Shoalhaven River, for lunch and a short walk(20 mins each way) to the Big Hole. This trip is especially for new members who may have not completed our basic driver training course and would like to meet some club members and see some tracks close to Canberra. It’s for families so children are welcome. It will be a relaxing day with plenty of time to chat over morning tea and lunch. If you wish to bring something to cook for lunch please do. Wood BBQs are available but we need to bring our own wood else bring a gas cooker. We’ll meet at 8.45 am for a start at 9.00 am. We should be back in Canberra around 4pm

Washup Report:

All nominees attended with additonal passengers being Barbara with Marie; Doug Rann’s son in law Francis and grandaughter; Kelvin had three of his children while John Sneddon rode with David and Trudy travelled with Chris. The route was changed to avoid side tracks and stick to main forest roads due to the recent heavy rain. This was the trip leader’s decision. Morning tea was had at Lowden Forest Park, included as part of the changed route. We enjoyed about an hour of chat and looking over the picnic area. A number of BBQ plates/ grates are missing and a small tree was resting on the overhead waterway for the water wheel. We continued to Berlang campground to find the Shoalhaven River quite high and running fast at the crossing point for the walk to the Big Hole. Guess what – we all piked out of the walk!! We enjoyed a leisurely lunch for about an hour and fifty minutes. The trip finished officially at Captains Flat. Six of the crew then adjourned to the hotel for a quiet drink and chat before heading home. Overall a most enjoyable day – great looking scenery; good company and a range of members from very new(Marie joined 3 months ago)to long standing members.
