Licolarama 2025

Licolarama 2025

LICOLARAMA is a one week excursion to the Victorian High Country that, if successful may become an annual event.
Modeled after Michael’s long running and popular VHC Ramble, but base camped at Licola instead of Dargo to provide access to the tracks on the western side of the VHC.
This trip is scheduled the week immediately following the VHC Ramble so that members wishing to do both can drive directly to Licola from Dargo (about 2hr 20min drive).

Day trips are being developed but the draft version is;
Mon – Butcher Country/Black Soil Gully
Tue – Cobbs Spur/Burgoyne West/Burgoyne East/Mt Margaret/Hickeys Ck
Wed – Lay day (I’m looking at options for a communal dinner – maybe even a spit roast!)
Thu – B1/Chromite/Mt Margaret/Burgoyne East
Fri – Caledonia River/Dingo Hill
Sat – Depart Licola

I am considering an alternate plan for Thu/Fri of heading to Wonnangatta Valley via Zeka Spur for an overnight camp. Then on Friday leaving the valley via Mt Sarah onto Selwyn Ck Rd, Beveridges Station and along the Buckland River to finish at Porepunkah (4-5 hr drive from Canberra), or possibly an extra camp Friday night at Beveridges Station (or one of the campgrounds along the Buckland) for a more relaxed journey home. Whether this happens and in what form will be decided nearer to the event and finding out what members prefer.

The day trips are designed to take from 4 to 6 hours for a slow paced day with plenty of relaxing camp time. Depending on convoy size, weather, etc, the trips may be modified or swapped to different days.

DEPENDENCIES/CONDITIONS:
The trip will likely go ahead rain or shine except in the case of extreme weather event, bushfire, pandemic, etc. Day trips may be cancelled or rerouted at short notice.

DISTANCE:
Licola is approx 600km/7hr drive from Canberra via Cann River and Bairnsdale. If coming from Dargo it’s 2hrs 20mins.

BOOKINGS REQUIRED:
Licola Caravan Park offers picturesque camping on grassy sites directly adjacent to the Macalister River, with plenty of shade and fires permitted.
** For bookings, please contact Leanne ASAP on 03-51488786 and tell her you are with Southern Tablelands 4WD Club **
Note that ALL unpowered camping sites have been PRE-RESERVED for the Club so you will NOT be able to book these online… Call Leanne!
There are also a few cabins and van sites (powered and unpowered) but these are not reserved so book early.
Alternatively (if the Caravan Park is booked out) Licola Wilderness Village is right across the road and has 16 cabins.

CAMPGROUND FACILITIES:
Showers (20c for 5 mins hot water)/toilets, etc. The general store has basic supplies including groceries, hot food, fishing gear, alcohol, gas, 95ULP and diesel.

SUITABLE FOR VANS/TRAILERS:
Caravans and campers welcome but NOT suitable for the tracks (including Wonnangatta). See note above about van sites.

DOGS:
Allowed in caravan park but not on day trips into National Parks (all except Burgoyne/Cobb)
