Birdsville to Dalhousie Springs

East-West trip across the Simpson Desert via QAA Line, French Line, Knolls Track, WAA Line, commencing at Birdsville and ending at Dalhousie Springs. Expected time seven days and individual permits (per vehicle) will be required. Participants will need to be self-sufficient, comfortable with remote-area travel and difficult driving on sand, tolerant, and willing to help others. Vehicles will need to be reliable, have fuel capacity for up to 900 km between refuelling stops including sand driving, comprehensive spares and tools, and adequate water and food supplies. Permits will be required and fees apply. NO camper trailers. Suggest you combine this trip with time afterwards to experience Old Andado – see Dave and Helen Sutton’s trip. This trip will not be a case of first in, first served, participants will be at the discretion of the trip leaders. Times are best estimates, please be flexible in case of changing circumstances. Please note that we will be accepting nominations for one way only, either West-East or East-West, so that as many club members can experience the desert as possible. Therefore, even if you nominate for both directions, there is no guarantee that you will be accepted both ways.
