Big Red Bound

Big Red Bound

Activity Description:

***Note*** Bookings now closed *** If you haven’t been to Birdsville and Big Red yet, and aren’t ready to commit to a Simpson Desert crossing, this trip will give you a taste of big sky country. Think of vistas of lots of blue up top, lots of red below, and some vegetation – spectacular! Historic buildings, rusting relics, abundant wildlife, outback towns, remote campsites. The plan is to travel, base camp, explore, repeat. Some overnight stops included. Depending on weather, planning to visit: Kinchega NP, Tibooburra and Milparinka, Sturt NP, Cameron Corner, Innamincka, Coongie Lakes, The Dig Tree, Haddon Corner, Birdsville, Big Red, Marree and Quorn. You will need to be prepared for remote outback travel with a reliable vehicle, tyres in good condition, carry recovery equipment, and be prepared to remote camp with little or no facilities. The plan includes spending a night at Big Red. Expect a Grade 2 trip if the weather is dry, Grade 3 if wet. If too wet, the roads will be closed and we could be stranded for days, so carry food and water for up to 7 days. I will update details, and there will be a pre-trip brief (over dinner) approx 1 month before departure.
