This trip is primarily focused on visiting Yerranderie and exploring its historic mining past. The emphasis is on heritage, history, and taking the time to walk through and understand the old township, mine sites and surrounding area — rather than challenging or technical driving (although if we find something; you never know…. ) 🚐 Friday Night (Optional – Self-arranged) For those wanting an early start, I will be camping Friday night at Taralga Showgrounds prior to the convoy departure. Bookings are required and must be made individually: https://www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/camping-and-accommodation/campgrounds/government-town-campground 🏛️ About Yerranderie Yerranderie is a remote historic silver-mining ghost town in the southern Blue Mountains, established in the late 1800s. At its peak, the town supported hundreds of residents and included homes, shops, a post office, school and hotel. As mining declined and access became increasingly difficult, the town was gradually abandoned. Today it remains one of NSW’s best-preserved historic mining sites, with remnants of buildings, mining machinery, old shafts and a cemetery, all set within rugged bushland and steep escarpments. The area has limited mobile reception, offering a genuine remote experience and a step back in time. Government Town Campground is well positioned for unhurried exploration of the historic area before returning to camp for the evening. 🚙 Trip Grade & Towing This is a Grade 3 trip. Camper trailers and small off-road caravans may attend, provided they are suitable for narrow access tracks and the driver is confident with their setup. If you are towing, it is your responsibility to check current road and track conditions prior to departure. The access track into Yerranderie is reported to be narrow in sections, and conditions may vary depending on weather. Drivers must be experienced, self-sufficient, and prepared to reassess their participation if conditions deteriorate. If in doubt, please contact the trip leader before the trip. ℹ️ Notes Please book your own campsites for both Friday (if attending) and Saturday night.
